With an upcoming game against Brimsdown this weekend, we caught up with manager Wasim Khan to get his thoughts on the current state of the team and what the future holds for the club.

On the Upcoming Game…

He emphasised the importance of maintaining performance levels:

“It's another game where we want to show a top performance level. Since the start of the season, we have shown at times a very good level. The problem was consistency, but now we've been able to find that due to various reasons. So it's about preparing as best as possible.”

The team has grown in confidence in recent weeks, and Khan believes understanding their opponents while focusing on their own strengths will be key:

“We're familiar with how Brimsdown play, so we just need to focus on ourselves and impose our game with the ball from the first whistle.”

On the Recent Form…

The club has had to undergo significant changes, and Khan highlighted just how much of a rebuild was necessary:

“Look, you have to remember from last season, there is only about 30% of the squad from last year. So we had to do a rebuild job, and as much as we tried to hit the ground running, you have to accept it may take some time for the squad to become a unit capable of consistent results.”

Despite the challenges, the team has started to gel, and their climb up the table suggests the hard work is paying off.

What's the Target for the Season End?

Rather than setting strict targets, Khan prefers to take things one game at a time:

“I don't like to limit our ambitions. We have 9 games and we will give our best to win all of them. After that, we will see where we finish, so we just want to remain focused on the next game.”

On the Club's Future…

Building a successful team is about more than just what happens on the pitch, and Khan remains dedicated to the club's long-term growth:

“We're trying to build a club that is the best team on the pitch and the best team off the pitch, so we want to progress.”

Reflecting on his time as manager, he pointed out the unique challenges they've faced:

“Sometimes it's easy to forget this is only our 5th official season, due to Covid cancelling 2 seasons. We've had to rebuild quite a bit every year, but we're still making progress.”

On the Result Against Newbury Forest…

Khan also reflected on the hard-fought win over Newbury Forest, where patience proved vital:

“They're fighting for their lives and decided to sit very deep from very early on in the game. Scoring the goal early, we never took full control until it was 1-1 and then after that, we were able to exert our game a lot better.”

Despite dominating possession, breaking down Newbury's low block was a challenge:

“We knew it was just about finding the right final pass with all the possession we had, and in the end, we're grateful we were able to do that to get the three points.”

With momentum building, the squad will now look to carry their form into the clash against Brimsdown.
